Private investigators are fairly common, yeah. There are just some things you don't want to go to the police for.

But some people just don't want legal involvement. Although even with private investigators, depending on what they uncover, they are required by law at a certain point to turn the case over to police.

For me? Coincidence, mostly. I just got hired because of my computer skills.

You can get a lot of information that way. Most things are online these days, so you can solve a case just by knowing where to look.
