... Like a spell or something? I don't think it'd be impossible to erase memories with spells, if someone had the time and energy to spare to come up with it.

It's more with technology, but more or less, yes.

Honestly, even if they didn't erase their memories, I doubt these people would know anything of value. It was just their way of showing us they were ahead.
