Similar, yes. The difference is that with visual novels, you get to control how the storyline goes with choices that you make.

In visual novels, the options are limited though. It's impossible for the people who create the game to make an infinite number of scenarios, so you usually only get a few options to choose from.

I believe so. Whatever her "route" is, the focus is on that. She gets slightly easier to follow if you see it from that way.
But only slightly easier. It's still insane.
