The last time I was in a place like this, there was a Revenant hunting us.

An angry spirit. They're typically created upon a violent death.

Hm... where I'm from, things like that don't exist.

I see. They're often caused by necromancy. If your people don't have necromantic abilities, I can see how no revenants would come to be, either.

There's nothing like... powers or anything back home, except in stories.

None of my ancestors had any abilities either, until one day the man who was to become the Emperor developed them. Through his abilities, the abilities of my own family line and others came to be.

If it weren't for him, such things would not exist for my people, either.

Was there a reason for that happening? A mutation?

I'm not certain why it was him specifically, but a great amount of death occurred at once. The human race was nearly annihilated. The amount of thanergy released by so much death likely gave him his abilities.

Ten thousand years ago.

So, in ten thousand years my people may get into necromancy.

Perhaps, perhaps not. But the fact such things don't exist in your world doesn't surprise me.

No, it just means I have to suspend my belief often while here.

I think we all have had to, in various ways. Belief can be nothing more than an obstacle, when it's limited in perspective.

It does seem like a lot of people aren't used to technology.
