. . . In that case. [She still doesn't want to think about it, but. Hmm.]

Any mark on their body will be lost to the healing pods. But any message has the possibility of being lost to surprise.

I'm not sure whether you're aware, but there are little pictograms available as well as text. They can be used to represent particular people and concepts.

[Stop. . . explaining emojis. . . ]

I've become a little more adept at using them while texting with Mollymauk.

And I will give credence to the idea that they cannot be so obvious or else the killer will simply erase them, even though I am of the firm opinion that it would be ridiculous for a killer to leave any message behind, particularly if it is too cryptic to understand.

Hmm. Alternatively, there is the option of a cipher. The one I typically use would be too complex to teach someone else to decode in such a short time, but it could be modified. Though - it makes me wonder if that's what Grace meant all along. Luca was a mathematician, was he not?

Here is what I would propose. Simple, but indecipherable to anyone you didn't tell. Choose one of the categories of little pictures - animals, or food items, or what have you - and simply assign them alphabetically or at random, and then share the list with one or two persons to memorize. No one else will think to consider that a dog was Aoi or a banana Ashiya Douman.

[Plus it would be really funny at trial if Sasazuka was murdered and his phone was just a row of eggplants.]

[She didn't volunteer herself because she didn't want to imply they trusted each other but she would have been so offended if he didn't pick her.]

Good. And I suppose so long as you know it, I can keep it as an option for myself.

No, it won't.

[. . .]

I've been putting a lot of thought into current circumstances. I am tired of being merely reactive, and remaining two steps behind. I would like to put more thought in how to proactively deter killers, or make them easier to catch.
