What, and also how. Despair phrased it as "in a sense", whereas Wrath just said "they get eaten" -- which is very Wrath of them, honestly.

Perhaps it's less the dead are literally eaten, and more... what of the dead is being eaten. If that makes sense.

Whether it's literal or not, we still need to look into it, especially considering that we can join them any week.

Even if the Avatars can't tell us outright, there should be a way for us to get some kind of information if we keep digging.

Well, that's the point. If I'm theorising, it's probably linked to indulging. I wonder if whatever we're doing for indulgence is generating something, and that something is only... released? Or accessible? If we die.

Apparently some people are close to getting another one.

If there's anyone who hasn't received one at all, then they're the ones lagging behind for indulging. Basically, we can gauge how well we're doing based on how many others have gotten.

But just keep a look out if anyone mentions getting a second one, and then judge how long it takes you to get another one. It's a good way to see how behind you may be.
